Manchester is famous for it’s rain. They say it always rains in Manchester but that is doing this great city a north-western British city a real disservice. It is a beautiful, culturally diverse city with friendly people and well worth visiting. You cannot though mention Manchester without Manchester United.
Manchester United is the team with the biggest soccer fan base in the world and has been the most successful English soccer team in the last 15 years. They play their games at Old Trafford which is well worth visiting even if there is no game on just to take the tour.
Away from the Red Devils; Manchester is situated in the south-central part of North West England and has a population of roughly 450,000. Manchester’s building offer a wide variety of architectural styles from Victorian to some real modern architecture. Manchester is synonymous for it’s red brick buildings and cotton mills (some still intact and others developed) dating back to when Manchester was the global centre of the cotton trade. If you want to get way from the buildings then go to the award winning Heaton Park which at 610 acres is one of Europe’s largest municipal parks.
Manchester is well known in England for having some of best night life anywhere which really took off in the 1990’s and there are more than 500 licensed premises in the city centre. There area gets about 20,000 visitors each weekend who come for the clubs and bars of “Madchester”. There is something for everyone with many people heading for Canal Street which is known as for it gay clientele.
Manchester offers history in the day and has Museums such as the Museum of Science and Industry plus the Museum of Transport. There are galleries for culture and the famed “matchstick” paintings of Lowry can be viewed in the some of the cities galleries. The when night time comes there is entertainment what ever you like for fun.
