How many of Arsenal FC’s players are English? (Out of 27?)

Because of the English youngsters coming through the Arsenal youth system, like Walcott, Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs, it seems that there is a wealth of young English talent ready to make it big at the Emirates.

But the fact is that these three are the ONLY English players in the whole squad. Aaron Ramsey is the only other one born in the UK (Wales) and the other TWENTY-THREE are all foreigners!

Here is a full list of the squad and where they are from: Almunia (Spain), Arshavin (Russia), Bendtner (Denmark), Clichy (France), Denilson (Brazil), Diaby (France), Djourou (Ivory Coast), Eboue (Ivory Coast), Eduardo (Brazil), Fabianski (Poland), Fabregas (Spain), Gallas (France), Gibbs (Lambeth, UK), Mannone (Italy), Nasri (France), Ramsey (Caerphilly, UK), Rosicky (Czech Rep), Sagna (France), Senderos (Switzerland), Silvestre (France), Song (Cameroon), Traore (France), Van Persie (Netherlands), Vela (Mexico), Vermaelen (Belgium), Walcott (Stanmore, UK), Wilshere (Stevenage, UK).

The new rules introduced by FIFA were originally meant to be; that at least five players, in every squad in every game, had to be eligible to play for England, but the big clubs (like <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:ga(‘send’, ‘pageview’, ‘/outgoing/article_exit_link/1274986’);” href=”Arsenal!http://ift.tt/1OeMPAy;) lobbied to get the rule amended, so that it includes foreigners that had played in the UK for at least three years. This is why coaches like Arsene Wenger and Rafael Benitez are making a point of buying young talented Europeans while they are still at school, so that they can be considered to be “home-grown”.

This is not good for the future of the English national team, because if our top teams don’t nurture the best young British players, will they ever make it to the top?
